Class Descriptions Pet classes -- just click on the class for the registration form. Puppy KPT Next class starts in Jan Prerequisites: Puppies should be between 9 weeks and under 5 months of age. No prior training is required. Description: This class will teach human and dog socialization, basic obedience skills and some agility skills, such as running thru a tunnel with the goal of increasing puppy confidence. Puppies will start and end each class with a short playtime. Beginner 1 Next Class starts Sunday, Dec 7th at 7 pm Prerequisites: Dogs should be at least 5 months of age. No prior training is required. Description: This class will teach basic obedience skills. Skills covered will include walking on lead without pulling, sit/stand for exam, recall, and sit and down stays. Beginner 2 Next Class starts Thursday, Dec 4th at 6:15 pm Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Beginner I class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class is a continuation from the Beginner I class. Skills covered will include attention, heeling, sit/stand for exam, recall, front/finishes, and sit and down stays. The CGC test requirements will also be covered. Competition classes Attention I Prerequisites: Dogs should be over 5 months of age. No prior training is required. Description: This class will teach the foundation skills for the AKC or UKC Novice exercises (to obtain a Companion Dog – CD title). Attention, foundation heeling, sits and downs, sit/wait with attention, stand for exam, recall games, and stays will be covered. Class will be fun and motivational with games and attention work to build a solid relationship with your dog. This class is also useful for dogs starting out in agility. This is the first in a series of three classes that will teach all of the novice exercises in a step-by-step approach. Limited to 8 dogs. Attention II Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Attention I class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class is a continuation from the Attention I class. Skills covered will include attention, heeling, stand for exam, recall, and sit and down stays. Class will be fun and motivational with many games introduced. Limited to 8 dogs. Teaching Novice Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Attention II class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class is a continuation from the Attention II class. This class will finish teaching the skills needed for the AKC or UKC novice exercises including; heeling, stand for exam, recall, and sit and down stays. Major focus is on teaching all of the components of heeling (e.g., turns, pace changes, halts). Footwork (without your dog) will be taught to the handler and then put together with the dog. Limited to 8 dogs. Show Ready Novice Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Novice class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class will prepare students to compete in AKC or UKC Novice obedience trials. Rules will be discussed as well as strategy for competing. The Novice exercises will be perfected and proofed. Training gaps you and your dog have will be identified and worked. Run-throughs will be conducted. Limited to 8 dogs.. Teaching Open I Prerequisites: Dogs should know all of the Novice exercises. Handlers will need a properly fitted dumbbell. Description: This class teaches the foundation skills for the AKC or UKC Open exercises. Major focus is teaching the dog the dumbbell skills of take, hold, and carry. The high jump, broad jump, drop on recall and out of sight stays are covered. Heeling is minimally covered in this class. Limited to 8 dogs. Teaching Open 2 Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Open I. Description: This class is a continuation of the Open I class. This class will finish teaching the skills needed for the open exercises. Off leash heeling will be covered as well as retrieve on the flat, retrieve over a jump, broad jump, drop on recall, and the out of sight stays. Limited to 8 dogs. Show Ready Open Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Open 2 class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class is beneficial to those getting ready to show in Open as well as those currently showing. Class will be geared to keep your dog fully peaked and motivated for on-going showing, as well as identifying and working any training gaps you and your dog have. This class will help perfect the Open exercises as well as focus on polishing and proofing. Rules will be discussed as well as strategy for competing. Run-throughs will be conducted. Limited to 8 dogs. Teaching Utility I Prerequisites: Dogs should know all of the Open exercises. Handlers will need utility gloves and articles. Description: This class teaches the foundation skills for the AKC Utility exercises. This includes signals, articles, directed retrieve (gloves), moving stand, and directed jumping. Limited to 8 dogs. Teaching Utility 2 Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed Utility I. Description: This class continues teaching all of the AKC Utility exercises. Limited to 8 dogs. Show Ready Utility Prerequisites: Dogs should have completed the Utility 2 class or have equivalent skills. Description: This class is beneficial to those getting ready to show in Utility as well as those currently showing. Class will be geared to keep your dog fully peaked and motivated for on-going showing, as well as identifying and working any training gaps you and your dog have. This class will help perfect the Utility exercises as well as focus on polishing and proofing. Rules will be discussed as well as strategy for competing. Run-throughs will be conducted. Limited to 8 dogs.
Rally 1: Introduction to AKC novice level signs and APDT Level 1 signs. Dog must have completed Beginner 2. By the end of the 8 week class, dog will be ready to compete in AKC Rally Novice/or APDT level 1 Rally 2: Continuation of Rally 1 with the introduction of Advanced/Excellent and Level 2 and 3 signs. Dog must have completed Rally 1 Agility: where dogs negotiate a course comprised of tunnels, ramps and jumps. Dogs must master all basic obedience commands and be able to work reliably off-leash to be eligible for any of these classes. Minimum of a Beginner obedience class is required. Hourly Ring Rentals are available for private practice time. Monthly Key Memberships are available for those interested in renting weekly practice time. |
